I have never understood the writer’s mental blockage, until I felt something similar. For more than a week I could not get near my working table, the more I saw my abandoned tools on my table, the worse I felt. Luckily this bad moment (caused by a conflictual situation in my life) passed away and now I am, again, confident and creative. In fact I was “saved” once again by the ArtBeadScene monthly contest (Inspiration: Untitled, 1926-1954, By Augustin Lesage, Oil on Canvas), in the sense that I realized that I had to make an effort and create the jewelry piece for this month. I would add that I found the inspiration for this month very tough (too many colors, lines, shapes – I did not know where to begin).
Materials and tools used: white Fimo Professional Polymer Clay, a pasta machine, pastel colors, mica powders, alcohol inks, a flexible blade, a craft knife and varnish. I have conditioned the polymer clay. I rolled it through the pasta machine. I have cut irregular “tiles”. And then I colored them with pastel colors. I colored more “tiles” with mica powders for a different look. I have covered a sheet of polymer clay with abalone gold leaf. Then I decided to cut the “tiles” into little pieces and the gold leaf covered polymer clay into stripes. I started to create a design applying the stripes and the little “tiles” on a thin sheet of white polymer clay (pressing slightly). I cut the shape I wanted and used the scrap clay to make some oval beads. I cut out some triangles on the upper sides of the pendant. I have made two holes on the upper sides of the pendant. I have baked it and after cooling, I enhanced the colors using alcohol inks ( I colored the margins and the back with yellow alcohol ink). I added some olive green alcohol ink over the abalone gold sheet stripes. I have varnished it with Triple Thick Gloss Varnish. I will leave you with a quote from Georgia O’Keeffe: I’ve been absolutely terrified every moment of my life – and I’ve never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do. I will try to keep this in mind. Have an amazing day! Mihaela I
